Is it possible to cut Atlas flex to desired lengths for fill-ins? Seems to met it would be simple to fill in a gap in a layout by cutting flex track to length, instead of trying to get the exact measure from combining shorter lengths of track. Where am I wrong?

That is all I have done for years.
I use a hacksaw with a fine tooth blade.this has been working well.
the dremal tool I could not get a stright cut down dermal hit rail and gave me an angle cut.
saves on small pices.
I have used the dremal wheel on the track all over my layout to make custom length parts.
The key is to use a large enough wheel so you can make the straight cut. When the disc becomes too small you can only make angled cuts. My local hobby shop stocks them, they come from a company called Gyros, and they are 2" in diameter.
The only issue with Atlas flex track is the spring to it. It has a tendency to return to it's original shape. You have to be somewhat creative in holding it in place and cutting it. Atlas supplies track end ties (6057) that allow for custom cuts. I also found that the right angle adaptor (575) for a Dremel 456 cut off wheel seems to work better for straight track cuts.
