While doing a quick pass through the store for other goods I came across the stand that had many diecast vehicles. i found these 2 for $5.99 each. The black one is 1/46 and the red one says 1/40th. which is hard to believe.as it seems small for that scale.CVS

From the looks of them. They are the same size. The H2 is about the same size as the F150 in real life.
Yes, they look very close in size and nice they come in several colors. I have to find more selection and need to take my mag. glass as the writing in black on black is too tuff to see what is written to find the scale close to the desired size.

That which is written upon them is not reliable or largely accurate. Take an established O scale figure with you to use as a standard.
Sorry 2 rail, But I had to scream out for such a good deal.
I really hope you're kidding!
And what about Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowes, Walgreens, Riteaid, KMart, Walmart, McMaster Carr and tons of other companies that get a mention every now and then for an item that is useful to us?
Oh and don't forget this is 2 Rail Scale why are we talking about vehicles which are obviously out of scale in the first place?

They are both good looking, and seem, to me to be close enough in size to fit on a layout, if positioned well.
I too have seen these two at my CVS - but I model the 1950s so these two aren't quite my cup of tea and I passed. But I look at their toy cars diesplay every time we go by for my or my wife's meds because they always have quite a few $6 vehicles and every one in a while I find one. A lot of "1:43" vehicles vary in size, as you observed, from about 1:38 to 1:56 (if you measure them out) and yet I've seen them offered up as "1:43". It really just depends and I let my eye decide if the combination of vehicle and scale is right for me, regardless of claimed scale.
Yes, it get a bit awkward buying cheap vehicles as one may say a scale on it but it becomes obvious there is no way that it measures up. One gets to taking a tape measure or a little scale person with him to see how it looks. I got that hummer home and found a sitting person from the layout and sat her on the back bed and she looked pretty good there.
I wrote the company to think about 1/48th in making other runs of vehicles as there are many O gauge/scale people that would gobble em up along with the children being led around car washes and stores that carry them.
I often peruse these vehicles at CVS too. Usually I borrow a ruler from their office supplies aisle and check their length versus prototype length to see the scale.
Most calculate out to 1:43 or larger.
Phill,
Classic Construction Models makes scale models of construction equipment in your preferred scale, 1:48. I have one model & have another on pre-order. I can’t buy more since their 1:48 scale models cost around $300.
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,

Don't overlook these as a cheap source of parts for railside junk. Tires, wheels, the beat up bumper, etc
Naveen, No way will I put that much in to an accessory on the layout. $300 is a whole lot of trains. That is 4 or 5 masterline cars for one little truck. Now if i was just stupid rich I'd buy like a crazy person. but thanks Naveen for the heads up.
Phill,
I posted the link to those models to show you that there are 1:48 scale models available, but they are not popular & they are expensive. If you thought $300 was expensive, CCM makes brass models costing $8,000 each in some smaller & bigger scales. The CCM model I have & the one on pre-order are important to me because I have designed some parts on the prototypes. I also get a supplier discount. As I mentioned in another post in the past, I mostly buy 1:50 scale truck, crane, bus & van models & few 1:43 scale automobile models. But from you posts I get the impression that you desperately want automobile models in 1:48 scale. Have you considered 3D printing? If your favorite automobile models are available in any close-enough scale on say, Shapeways, I would assume that it would be easier to scale them in CAD to 1:48. But as I had mentioned in an earlier post , I don’t expect Atlas-O, MTH or Lionel to spend their own money developing 1:48 scale automobiles if MTH can get close-enough fairly well-detailed 1:43 scale versions of automobiles from Yat-Ming, who specialize in cheap 1:43 scale models & sell them for $5.
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,
