Hey Guys,

I have seen the real Cab Forward at the CA State Railroad Museum.  I think that the Lionel version looks better.  This is what SP should have done.

There are many photos of Cab Forwards pulling passenger trains over Donner Summit.  The Daylight trains were never operated on this route.  This is probably the reason that SP did not paint a Cab Forward in the Daylight colors.

Another reason the Cab Forwards were black is that the soot from the many tunnels on the Donner route quickly covered everything.  SP stopped painting the company name on the sides of the Cab Forward tenders for this reason.

A friend bought one of these.  I can hardly wait to see it run.

You should be flogged and sent outta town on a rail for that remark, Joe!  Questioning how SP painted their engines.  Hmmmph, clearly not an SP fan.

Looks quite spectacular actually, kind of artsy!

That replicates the "as delivered" look.  Out in the field, that gloss didn't last very long.

When Passenger Train Collector mentioned that he was getting one of these Lionel Southern Pacific Daylight Colored Scale Cab Forwards, I questioned his thinking. Now that Lionel has this product in our hands, Its Fantastic. Its really amazing that todays technology allows Crisp Clear Paint Jobs that are simply Beautiful. Now, maybe its a fantasy color scheme, but it looks good, pulls great, and in Legacy mode, its a very Fun to Run Locomotive. Happy Railroading

Now Bob, don't be part of the problem and encourage such atrocious behavior.

Besides,  Lionel's Daylight cab forward is the wrong cab # (4275 vs. 4294).

Nah, would never wish that.  Just get all those oddball people off whatever they've been smokin' that makes them think scale cab forwards in Daylight colors are cool and repaint all those Lionel models right the way they're supposed to be.

Yep. That's the same process I'd recommend for getting rid of "pumpkins" and "graffiti units."

I had a friend voice the opinion that the Cab Forward was such a utilitarian, ponderous, heavy freight hauler, and rather ungainly in appearance, that it sort of makes the striping humorous, like racing stripes on a bulldozer. As a utilitarian and functional engine it had its own beauty, but he felt the daylight striping was like seeing a boxer wearing an orange and red striped leotard. I had to chuckle, but whatever - people can run pink and purple engines if it turns their prop and they want to pay for it, and purists will roll their eyes and think it's stupid.

While I personally have no interest in a Cab Forward, I'd make a move on one if they did it in this scheme; and no one would think I didn't know it was make-believe. (Well, maybe a few.)

Hello Rod S.

Well it's looking good for SuperTrain2015, so you would be able to double head the Daylight Cab Forwards around the outer loop.  I'll chase it with my CN TurboTrain!

I can just see it now...with all the noise, bright colors, smoke and lights, it will be a beautiful thing.
