Looking for help as DCS App keeps freezing continuously, regardless of engine(s) . I operated app before via former WiFi TIU with no issues, however IOS version.

Installed new WTIU and updated firmware and  DCS app version is 4.0.1 , build 78 Android.

Using new ONN 10 inch android tablet for train operation only , connected to MTH network ( not home network). No problems with Lionel app on this tablet. It works great.

if I delete app and reinstall do I lose all engines ? Are engines on the app or WTIU?

Anyone having app freezing issues?

Yes, I am, on an ONN 7" tablet which also works fine running the Lionel App and the Base 3, but not the MTH app (freezes just like yours)

The MTH app works perfectly on my older Samsung tablet, but not on the new ONN 7" tablet.  The Lionel Base 3 does NOT work on my older tablet, but it works perfectly with the ONN 7" tablet.

Temporary solution for me:

1.  New ONN 7" tablet for the Base 3

2.  Older Samsung tablet for the MTH app

Guess , I am not the only one having issues with MTH  Android app.

I am going to retain the  Android tablet for Lionel android app. Lionel app works flawless , IOS or Android version and on multiple versions of devices.I like  the screen size  of small tablet versus iPhone .Will load  IOS DCS app onto an older  mini iPad friend gave. I will try to export engine list , hopefully Android to IOS.

Hello, anyone from MTH  app development monitoring. The  current DCS  Android app is very buggy, it has been getting worse. Tried on 3 different Android devices. IOS works flawless . Who is doing testing ?

A user shouldn’t have to invest in new devices due poor testing .

I've been using it successfully without issue on several Android devices including a Samsung S9, S10e, Google Pixel tablet and a Motorola Moto G.

Alright...I know this is going to sound strange, but...

When app "freezes" go to "fwd whistle" or "reverse whistle" on downswipe from main engine control (ie. the new "soft keys") touch either one, hear the whistle blow and return to main engine control and everything should be functioning again.

This has become automatic for me and works now every time the main engine control screen "freezes."

I have no idea WHY this works, that said, IT WORKS...for me.

I have 2 Samsung phones and an ONN tablet from Walmart (androids all, I believe) and have tried an experienced a few of the very things of which you and others speak.

I'm having a great deal of success with my "amateurish" discovery, and would be so happy if it helped you to any degree as the brothers on this OGR Forum have helped me. The guys online this OGR FORUM literally enabled me to run trains for my grandkids and church kids this Christmas.

The Lord be with all of you! Happy Epiphany, Bradley+

Thanks Paster Brad, will try your ‘fixes’ as recommendations. The issue in my case seems to be the android version of the app, regardless of android version or device. Both IOS Lionel and MTH versions work great on an apple device.I tend to connect via the MTH network  as the app continues to disconnect on my home WiFi network .I tend to want to keep my Apple iPad and iPhone pristine so I can jump on internet and receive calls etc.Guess I’ll dump the android devices.

Al,

You've heard at least one person say here (above) that the app works fine for them on many Android devices.

Do you have a recent one?  Or perhaps is yours as old as the hills or from an off brand?  (There is no off-brand with iOS because there's only one brand, Apple.)

In either case, patience is required here as with most things in our beloved hobby.  If you have none by all means dump your Androids.

The rest of us will keep using ours.  They're working, generally, just fine.

I actually have a new Samsung with Android 13 and a new ONN tablet with Android 15, both fresh no conflicting apps on board. Anyway I don’t seem to get consistent  response performing basic functions. One shouldn’t have to reform workarounds.Yes,going to dump Android and go IOS on both apps.

I think the Walmart ONN tablet 2024 model may be having trouble with the DCS app. It runs "Android GO," which is a "lite" version of Android. Technically, that shouldn't prevent the app from working, though. I have seen the DCS app work properly on the older models of the ONN tablet.

Well ,tried saving engine roster and transfer to  refreshed Android DCS app and data did load but the Data was a mess. So removed Android app, did a clean reinstall of Android 13 on tablet,  then clean install of Android DCS app and things seem to be working. Only down side is I need to reinstall all the engines…. Will do it over time as I use them. Fingers crossed … app behaving for now.
