Barry,
Is the DCS Explorer basically a unit merging the TIU and WIU into one box?
Bruce
Bruce,
Although I've not opened one up to see what's actually inside, yes, it is essentially a WIU/one TIU channel combination.
However, it's only useable via a DCS App. The DCS Remote cannot access a DCS Explorer.
I note this is for the Explorer unit, not the tablet/phone or the WIU
Robert,
That's correct.
Is anyone having trouble downloading the firmware update 1.2 for the explorer? I couldn't do it. I follow the steps in the manual and it wouldn't do it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm not the best when it comes to computers, and right now I'm lost with this update. I like to hear if anyone else is having problems with it.

The only way anyone can help you is if you state exactly what you do and exactly what happens.
Barry, I was able to open Luci, then select the System tab near the top of the page, and then select Back-up/flash firmware, and then when I went to select Chose File nothing happen and didn't show anything on the page. It didn't show any file to open.
When you selected Choose File, did a file dialog box appear? If so, you then need to navigate to the update file and select it.
Further, make sure that if the update file arrived on your computer as a Zip archive, that you unzip it before you access LuCI.
This and a whole lot more about DCS WiFi is all in MTH’s “The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition!" |
No, Barry. When I select the choose file, it shows no new firmware filename to click open.

Click on Choose File. Then, take a picture of the screen and attach it to a post.
Barry, here is the picture that I'm getting, it doesn't say choose file. It showed nothing in the box.
Barry, I used my I pad and I was able to see the choose file in the box, I selected it and nothing was shown. There was no new firmware filename to choose from.

That's not what I asked you to do. I said to take a picture of the screen, the entire screen, not some small part of it that happens to be the wrong part.

Do you understand that you must first download the update file from MTH's Protosound2.com web site?
Did you download it to your iPad and do you know where you put it? Unless you understand how your smart device does things you should update the firmware using a PC. Regardless, before updating the firmware you must download the firmware to the device that will be doing the update.
Is the link above to www.protosound2.com still active. My browser just times out
Is the site down or is there a new site?
I have tried typing in on two different devices and two different browsers.

Yeah that link is timing out for me too. Here is the direct download link from MTH. This link bypasses all of the registration form stuff and immediately prompts you to download the firmware file.
H1000,
Thanks that works

OK it will be Monday before I can work on this again, but I'll ask here. Bought a new DCS WIFI Explorer, plugged it in, set to MTH (on the MTH/Home switch) and plugged it up to the track. Got a track override light (Track light red), both with or without and engine on track. Unplugged the track entirely, unplugged and plugged unit back in and... same thing Track red. Hmmm. Went on line, read a bit, found out there was an upgrade for unit and downloaded. Loaded upgrade, flashed system plugged in and now no Track light, which if I understand directions properly is actually what I should see until the App connects. OK. Set the MTH/Home switch to MTH, reset unit, used my smartphone (Android device - OnePlus 6) and linked to the MTH wireless LAN. App can't see Explorer unit. Sigh.
Checked under the hood so to speak and yes I am connected to the MTH wireless LAN Phone has an IP address in the 192.168.143.x range, sees 192.168.143.1 as the correct gateway and DNS device. Link is good, signal strength is excellent. Network side she is talking. But the App sees no Wireless explorer connected. Reset the phone. Removed and reinstalled the App. Still doesn't see the Wireless Explorer box. Any ideas?

Larry,
After you launch the app, you need to:
BIG shout out to Barry Broskowitz. I had to redo my home WiFi. Couldn't get the DCS to connect to the new network, messed around messed around. Finally over the the book shelf for Barry's book. Clear, concise and easy step by step process. Followed it and everything worked like a charm. THANK YOU Barry.
Good things can come from reading a book!
