Issue with DCS - I am pretty well versed in it and I was seeing if someone here could help.

I have two TIUs right now - one is controlling the mainlines and the other is controlling the yard - eventually one will control everything but I am in transition wiring a control board.

The one I am having a problem with is my TIU revision H1.  Have an Wi-Fi unit connect via the cord suggested by MTH.  There are moments where it doesn’t respond to my commands via the app.  It happens every 30 seconds and doesn’t respond for at least 15 seconds.  Everything is updated to latest firmware and software and has worked perfectly for years.  This only started this week.

I tried the other tiu (rev L) and it’s Wi-Fi unit with no problem.  I also tried the Wi-Fi unit I was having a problem with the other DCS unit and again, no issues.  I have determined it is not my WIU units.  For giggles I tried my remote (dusted it off) with the rev H1 Tiu and everything was fine!!  Through all this trial and error I determined that my Rev L tiu works with both WIUs perfectly and my Rev H1 has the issue with the wius but works fine with the remote.

Here is my question - can my serial port be damaged causing the connection to act up? Could it be the cord? What would cause this connection to drop on this TIU? Is it something internal to this H1 tiu?

Yes - basically the rev L controls the layout and I am using the H1 just for the yard because now I am permanently wiring everything.  I will only need one once done, but upset that H1 is not operating correctly.  Both are on 6.1 and both WIU are 1.1.

While it's hard to say exactly, there definitely may be an issue with the serial data being handled over the connector if a remote works fine. It may be due to TIU age or a combination of other factors. I'll stop short of saying it's a dud / dead and let those more knowledgeable with the older rev TIU's debug that.

I had my DCS WI-FI stop working suddenly last year. The WI-FI unit appeared to be working fine, I had an extra TIU and swapped out the 22 year old TIU, and voila, Wi-Fi works again.

I figured there was a board behind the serial port that failed due to age.

I kept the old TIU to use as both a workbench TIU, and a back up.

I should get it repaired, anyone that could do this?
