One of my remotes is acting weird.  On power up, the normal intro screen comes up stating software version, etc. briefly.  Then it immediately goes to the 'No Active DCS Engine' screen, then "Inactive Eng  INA   S/U   All" screen.  The buttons do not function, none of them.  Tried 'Read' nothing, no response.  Tried Menu, nothing.  Tried Engine, Read, E-Stop- nothing. I connected the tether cable between the remote and TIU, the remote does not power up.  Tried to power down - nothing.  Had to remove a battery to power down.

I opened the case, why - because I can tell nothing looking inside except that the Transciever board does have the two rubber pads beneath it to prevent the transceiver board from coming loose in its socket.

After thinking about it - which can be dangerous- I wonder if the problem is a defect in the board that is activated by the buttons?

Anybody have a similar problem?

Is the remote repairable, by a service tech?

Oh - by the way - removal of the top and bottom covers is simple.  Place a small straight blade screwdriver between the top half and bottom half of the case at the bottom of the remote, adjacent to the tether port.  Gently twist the screwdriver.  The case separates easily and proceed up each side to the top for removal.  To mate the two halves start at the top and carefully move the top of the case down, it joins easily.

Any suggestions?

thanks,

Bruce

Bruce,

First, power the TIU off and then back on, noting how many times the red LED blinks before it comes on solid. This is your TIU's ID#.

Next, press: Menu/System/TIU Setup/Edit TIU Address. Do not ever anything else

Note which TIU's ID#s are listed. Your TIU should be one of the ones listed. Press Menu repeatably to back out of the DCS Menus.

Report back and we can proceed from there.

As an aside, opening the remote with a screwdriver is not the recommended approach. It's a good way top chew up the edge of the remote's case.

Barry,

First I cleaned the battery ends, all four of them.  Installed batteries.  Turned on the Z4000, powered up TIU.  TIU is #1.  Turned on remote, kept hitting the Menu button.  Eureka!!!  The menu came up, edited TIU to #1.  Turned off TIU and Remote.  Powered up, menu came up, read the MTH engine on test track.  Started up ok, all systems work.  Remote responded when I turned it OFF.  Turned TIU off.

Powered everything up again - fine - works as advertised.

thanks,  Barry

Bruce
