For those who are MTH techs, the Service Loader Program 2.34 has been posted in the usual place (the MTH technician's forum).

Barry, give me a call when you have a minute.

Ralph,
It allows uploading an engine's sound file to a PC.
Any fix for the timeout error while trying to find the TIU when preforming a remote backup/restore?

Barry, For the non-tech, in your post above, what is the difference between this and the ability of the latest consumer loader to download sound files from a loco and place them on a PC?
Robert,
The Service Loader Program has functions not present in the Consumer Loader Program, such as the ability to serialize and register a PS2/PS3 board to a particular customer, and to change the board's permanent engine name.
It allows uploading an engine's sound file to a PC.
I meant, doesn't the consumer loader also do that now?
"Serialize & register". What is the purpose of that, to assist in event of theft?
The principal reason I use that feature is to change the permanent name of the locomotive. It also inserts the ASC's name, etc into the file.

If I'm not mistaken the older consumer loader allowed the consumer to store (load) the existing files FROM his engine to his PC (in case he wanted it back), the later version did not.
You're correct, Bob. But even earlier versions of the consumer loader did allow one to download a file from the loco and store it on a PC. For some reason, MTH had removed that feature but has now restored it.
