DD35 dummy, magnet on axle?

I got a DD35 Dummy to go with the powered unit I picked up not too long ago, I'm wondering what this does:

Its a relatively strong magnet on the rear-most axle of the engine, only on the dummy. I flipped over my powered DD35 and it does not have one. Any idea what its for?
