Diecast model of the Checker "Marathon" Yellow Cab in 1:40 scale.
This is a nicely detailed model of the Checker "Marathon" taxi cab built by the Checker Company of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The model has rubber tires and opening front doors. The model has an overall length over the bumpers of 5 inches. This compares with the prototype dimension of 201.6 inches. This model size meets the overall proportions of the prototype Marathon taxi. Although the scale of the model is NOT marked on the casting a comparison with the prototype data indicates a 1:40 scale. The manufacturer name imprinted on the base of the diecast model is "Shing Fat Huiyang".
Although the model is oversize for use with O scale model railroads it could be used in a model diorama of a street scene.
The classic "Checker" Marathon built from 1958 to 1982 is the most famous taxi cab vehicle in the United States. The vehicle is comparable to the London Taxi in its nationally renowned styling, which went largely unchanged throughout its use.
