Was running my 2001 unshrouded "J" and noticed the sounds were high pitched and screechy. Has a new BCR in it and runs fine. Could it be a bad speaker? Or could it be a bad sound board component? The item # is 20-3058-1. Everything else operates fine.

Most likely bad speaker. Check it for peeling. BF-0000033 is the replacement. 16 ohm 5W. G
Thank you, GGG, for the prompt and informative reply. Do I have to remove the speaker to inspect it or can I see the speaker cone on its backside?
Here are two MTH speakers. Bad one is on the right, new replacement on the left. You can see that the plating is peeling off the frame on the bad one. The flakes get behind the cone and mess up the sound. Note that the plating is a different color on the new speaker. MTH changed their supplier when it became clear the old speakers were no good.

Easy inspection in the tender. Easy access. I have speakers if you need one also. E-mailin profile. You will just need to solder the lead on to the speaker terminals. G
GGG, how much is the replacement speaker and could you solder the leads on for me? If you could do it so that all I have to do is unplug the old speaker and put in the replacement that would be great. I'm 75 and my hands are not as steady as t hey use to be.
thanks,
Milt

Milt, Yes I can. You would remove 3 screws holding speaker in place. Unplug from connector. Install new. My e-mail is in my profile. So you can contact me and we can get this going. G
