Here are some videos/pics of a fairly easy way to add some micro LED's to your train consist. I got the string at Wal-Mart, I think it was $5. There are three settings for the lights, each is demonstrated in the separate videos. I prefer the last, faster, flashing setting. The power pack requires only two AA batteries. It's advertised as being able to last the entire Christmas season, being run every day for weeks.
I had no idea if this would work when I bought them, and figured the power pack would fit inside a boxcar. Turned out I wouldn't be able to turn them on and off unless I arranged the pack as shown. Duuuhhh.
The final two pics try to show (hope you can see) that I was lucky to have six Premier MTH NH boxcars that had space between the topside walking rail and the car itself. That allowed me to thread the tiny wires and lights through each rail. I fastened them with very thin, but stiff, wire that went under and up and allowed me to tie the string down to each car. Of course, there has to be enough play between cars to allow for turns.
After three tries, I finally settled on this configuration. By far the hardest part was getting the cars up there. It took my wife and I three tries before we could get them on the boards without dislodging anything. The lights may have reached all six cars. Figure 15 feet divided by two (has to be a return). No way we could get that many cars up there without at least two more people!!
The whole thing cost only the original $5, plus two batteries. The best thing is that, being black wire, you can't see the wiring at all from the floor or the bar. The arrangement was a big hit at our annual Christmas and New Years parties.
Hope you like it. As always, hope you get some ideas from another LED post. I get tons of ideas from your posts.
Best regards,
Jerry
