With Weaver models closed for a year now, do many of you still buy their Ultraline models online? The real question is if the model is not nos and still has factory packaging, how do you combat or minimize transit damage as a buyer?

Just an FYI Weaver models until 2007-2008 was not the greatest. From the early "white box"kits that just had thin white tissue paper until the late 1980's when Weaver Models transition to the black box with cardboard insert and shrink-wrapped ends to hold the car in place. However once the car was used, the shrink-wrap was not a reusable item to secure the car back in its own packaging. Now with Weaver models hone, you can't purchase the superior clam shell car inserts. Is it just me that one doesn't consider a Weaver car damaged if the fragile grab rails or stirrup steps are broken off? Your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Of course, also - I still buy them, when I buy. While some of your points about Weaver packaging and product delicacy are well-made, and I agree, I have never found this to be an overwhelming issue. Indeed, I have found that Atlas products (particularly the Master Line) should be voted "Most likely to break in transit or removal". At least that was true at one time.

Not that this is an excuse, but Weaver RS is also easy to fix - provided the parts have not been lost, of course.

Me too. I have a list of Weaver cars I look for when I go to local train shows or York. Also I go to websites hoping to find something at a hobby shop may still have. Sometimes with the shrink wrapped cars I got had damaged trucks. But a call to Weaver took care of the broken parts. I miss Weaver but there might be hope with Lionel making them again. Already ordered a 6 pack of grain hoppers.................Paul
