I had to remove the clear plastic for the Windows on my MTH passenger cars so I could repaint them. Now they are all painted and ready for assembly but I thought I'd check with you all to see what you think would work?
Thanks, Mike

Krystal Klear, by the same company that makes Micro-sol and Micro-set for decals.
It can even be used by itself to form small windows and lenses, up to about 1/4" IIRC.
It wont craze plastic like some super glues, and dries clear.

Thanks, I just ordered it !!
Is Krystal Klear something you can get at a craft store like Michaels?
I use Tester's Clear Parts Cement, probably something very much like the aforementioned Krystal Klear.
I have never looked at a craft store, it is very possible. Any hobby shop that sells models and decal supplies should have, or be able to get Krystal Klear, it could be used in many modeling(and possibly craft) situations, and would not be strictly Train specific.

I have not used Testor's clear parts cement, how thick is it?
Krystal Klear, is VERY thick similar to Elmer's White Glue. It can be "pulled" across small openings, like porthole windows, to form the "glass" by itself, not using any other material.

Does it dry right away, or does it take several hours? MTH used something like rubber cement, it looked like. Also is the glue you like removable? I don't think I'd need to remove the Windows again but, shoot you never know.. I will say this, after painting all these passenger cars, I can see why they aren't cheap! It took a lot of time, masking, painting, masking again and painting.
Clear Parts Cement & Window Maker from Testors.
---- Features ----
Use for cementing clear polystyrene parts like canopies, windows and windshields, and headlight lenses to your plastic model.
Krystal Klear takes awhile to dry, the thicker the application, the longer the drying time.
It does not "Melt" the plastic like testors "Orange Tube" plastic cement, so I THINK that it would be possible to separate parts if needed, but I have never tried.
Krystal Klear also cleans up with water, it may be similar to Testor's clear part cement.

Scotch tape will hold the 'glass' to the smooth inside walls. May only hold for a couple of years. John in Lansing, ILL
YES • I also use tape. I like Scotch Tape, prefer Scotch Matte Finish for structures & rolling stock. I never use glue for this process. This type of tape will never yellow.
If your tape is out of sight, consider Kapton tape, it really grips and stays on.

Hi John: I found this tape on line, is this the correct item? "On The Big River"
That is the stuff.
If the glue can be seen, I use Pacers 560 Canopy Glue. If the glue can't be seen, I use Walthers Goo. I found the latter works particularly well when you use real glass (Microscope cover Slips) for the windows:
I've used the canopy glue on my RC airplanes back in the day. It worked pretty well, but it took several hours to dry. The stuff I used smelled like elmers glue. does the Walthers goo dry pretty fast? And is it thick enough where it won't really run? Is it a hobby shop item or something that a hardware store would carry?
thanks so much,
Mike
I'm curios about that tape too! I'm wondering if it's thin enough to run at the tops of the Windows? The MTH adhesive might have been some type of tape too. It was pretty uniform and ran in a thin straight line at the top and bottoms of the plastic Windows.
Is that tape double sided??
I know this post is a few weeks old now but I figured I'd give an update to reattaching the windows in a passenger car. I ended up looking on eBay for the kapton tape that was mentioned and it looked good but it only showed that it was single sided tape. But what I did find on eBay was some tape that was advertised to adhere batteries in iPhones. It's double sided and it's a clear tape. It has a red seperator, so it looks red on the roll. It comes in all different widths, so I got it in 2 mm and 3mm. And honestly it is the same tape that MTH uses to attach their windows. (They used a 2mm tape) It worked wonderfully. If anyone is interested in it, I can get the exact name of the stuff. It's about 5 dollars a roll, including shipping. I mean seriously it's the exact tape they use, so great!
