Doing some research this morning  On the Youngstown and Southern  I came across a picture I've never seen before of  Smith ferry

This is where coal was transferred from the Ohio River to the railroad to Youngstown at one time in history it      Hauled more  coal  out of here then the Pennsylvania Railroad PRR and Norfolk and western railroad N&W

 Owners
Youngstown and southern, Pittsburgh coal company, Montour Railroad ,  PRR and  P&LE joint owner ship and a bunch other  short lines  including  Ohio  Central.
this part of the line  is abandoned but half of the Youngstown and  Southern is now operated by the Youngstown and southeastern.

Note

In the background is the prr main line and Ohio river

The Youngstown and Southern was originally an interurban line.  Somehow it survived until  the 1950's when dropped it's wire and became a short line switching RR.  (There are still a few examples of the rail bonds that had been used.)  It was actually the last interurban operating in Ohio, until about 1952.  It's owned now, by the Genesee and Wyoming and continues operation on a very limited basis.  Probably Rich Melvin could enlighten us on this RR as he actually ran trains on the former Ohio Central on this division.
