Dose Atlas offer a plan or booklet that covers the Texas western layoutO-20. With bench work, better track layout photos?I do have the Atlas O 3-rail layouts but all it shows is a 2 page spred on the layout.I have all the track, and most of the lumber ready to build this layout.I also called Atlas to find out and now I have to wait and see if they call back. So if you know please let me know. or if you know how I can get this information. Thank you verry Much Scot Pensgard

What Atlas calls "the Texas Western" was originally an HO layout called "The big panhandle". It was in one of the Atlas HO layout books. I cannot recall which one however-- I do have the book, but I have to search for it. If I find it, i'll see if it is still being published. edit: the name of the book is "Custom line layouts for HO" as far as i can remember. i'll google what i can---
By the way, there was a discussion about this very layout back in february of 2012 here in this very forum. You were the originator-- you still haven't built this yet???
Good morning Fec fan.I have built about 1/2 of the same layout as of this year.Atlas has a book called Atlas O 3-RAIL LAYOUTS wich I have.I know that I am building this a little slowly But I also dont have anyone helping,And I still spend a lot of time going to doctors and days wear I dont fell well, due to me looseing my leg. That is Why I am asking if anyone knows if they offer any thing on building this.Ill Post some photos when I get back from a doctor appt. Again Thank you
Scot, fully understand-- I have a medical condition too-- can't work on the layout for much more than an hour per day, if that(have trouble standing up for that long). The book I have is from way back in time- it's the original edition-- I looked for it this morning, couldn't find it. I did look at Amazon, they do have the original edition for sale from a few sellers--- I know that the description of the layout was exstensive- more than a couple of pages. Hope this helps--
Here is a link to the O-20 layout from the Atlas website. One of their more elaborate packaged layouts. There is a parts list also. My foggy head thinks the 18'X10' listed is for the operation section left in the small picture and the yard section was an additional area. You may want to contact Atlas via E-mail for a response . This page, click on the underlined phrase to link. Either Steve Horvath or Bill Seretelli would be able to answer your tech question. Their E-mail addresses are listed at the bottom of the page. I believe Steve to be your best response related to track and layout. Best wishes with your project.
Hello everyone.I did some more research on this layout. And I found the HO version of this layout and its called The Big Panhandle and ita from the 1988 printing of the Atlas 2nd edition custom-line layouts HO scale railroads book.So now I have some more information to work with.It will give me some things to look at as there are definitly some changes. So now I will wait for Atlas to contact me and see what they have to say about this layout build. And I would like to thank every one who replyed. Thanks Scot Pensgard
That track plan resembles a John Armstrong design from a 1950's layout book for Atlas HO track.
Ace the copyrite says it from 1957 and then in 1971 and 1988 back when Atlas was known as Atlas Tool Co.,INC.

That's the one; I have the old 1957 version. A yard off a wye is a pretty good scheme if you have the space and Armstrong used that in some other plans. I have a long yard off a wye on my HO layout.
