The only way I can do a lashup on an engine without a working front coupler is to run it backwards and program the lashup accordingly. It would be cool to run two or more engines up front. Anyone dealt with this problem successfully? Thank you.

This has been a problem with O-gauge 3-rail model steam locos since before WWII.
A couple of Weaver steam engines with a scale front coupler.

I fitted a front coupler to several Rail King steam locomotives that had only the "stub" on the front. I triple head three Rail King P47's, which had the stub. Just make sure it pivots when you do the fabrication. Some engines, like the Big Boy, need a sheet metal plate with the coupler mounted to it. Basically, just fabricate your own front coupler. I really like double and triple heading locomotives, including steamers.
There were two, of my steam locomotives, that came with a larger Claw front coupler. At one time Bowser offered the larger claw in their detail parts section.
