This is great news for those of us that buy their kits. Four new "O" scale kits, that makes six new kits in the last six months. I was worried that DD was getting out of the O gauge market last year. These are the newest kits that will be shown on their web site next month. http://www.downtowndeco.biz/site/  In my opinion they make some of the best building kits on the market today. This the Patterson's Hardware store that's available now. Tap the picture for a larger version. Don

We have over 20 of Randy's buildings on our layout, I will organize some photos asap.

I was looking forward to the Gugisberg Machining building, which has been postponed for lack of commercial support. Too bad, but it was in fact a big building...

Cast hydrocal buildings have a wonderful look to them, with a texture difficult to equal in other media. In my experience I much prefer hydrocal to resin in modelling brick or stone buildings.

Randy prefers the dark side of urban structures, he is very much into decaying buildings; and neighborhoods on the down side, awaiting rediscovery and redevelopment.

For years I've implored Randy to produce an urban row house series. I guess it never caught his interest. I see that Les at Westport is taking up the challenge, which is great, but a row house series by Randy would be dynamite.

Jan, David, thanks. I'm thinking the bank might be my next purchase. I'm trying to work in a second town on my new layout. It would be a small rundown place that's on it's last leg. Some of the Downtown Deco buildings would work well there. I managed to get a new Bus Depot kit on E-bay. I dropped my old one and of course it flew in a thousand pieces. Anyway I'm glad Randy's thinking of us O gaugers. Don

Don, any scene of those islands is a wonderful sight.  My late wife and I visited there

on our honeymoon in October, 1980.  Intending to go there only once in our lifetimes,

we ended up going back three more times!!

Just to keep this post related to trains, we did see what I think was the sugar cane

train on Maui, if I'm not mistaken.  Thanks for the pic!

Don:  I enjoyed these shots of the DD buildings, BUT, I wonder if they plan on doing more RR oriented buildings.  My problem is that I have a small layout with a lot of track and "stuff" built in.  Overall it's 22'X24' on four levels, but it has over 750' of track and some 66 switches.  So, ir's crowded and I don't have a lot of extra room for those neat little buildings.  I'm concentrating on buildings that required RR service or are part of the RR itself.  My downtown section, which hides an 18' section of track, consists of some 20 buildings varying from 3 stories to six stories and I'm thinking that I should have even taller structures.  At York I was requesting Ameritown/ OGR to make up six and eight story structure kits from their inventory of building parts.  Several that I have I added floors to to make them five stories but could use taller buildings.

Also, with the limited amount of real estate, I find that I need to concentrate on factories, warehouses, freight stations, etc. all that require the services of a railroad connection.  I really like those charming little buildings that DD offers, but I can't buy them simply because I don't have the room for a non-railroad oriented building.

Yeah, I know that I squeezed too much RR into too small a space, but, after all, I am building a model RR, not a just a small town on a layout.
