I came across this lot on this sold lot on Ebay and thought it was interesting. Does anybody know who made it, and when?

The prototype is an early "oil-electric", 1926 built by GE's Japan division. Couldn't find much more quickly or how it relates to any built for the US market.
One can only speculate as to who would create the model of the Japanese train.
Made by KTM in the 50's and imported by International Models. They were one of several different prototypes that were imported and available in both 2 and 3 rail versions. Repowering them is a fun project since the drive is at best problematic.
That one went pretty cheap given its company of 3 IMP freight cars; the re-org of eBay listings probably contributed to bidders not seeing it.
And, I already have too many ED144 shells laying about and will probably sell off another 2 or 3 just to reduce the clutter factor in my shop.
I miss seeing the 'brass' section on ebay. It was always fun taking a look at the postwar brass engines that would come up for sale.
