Obviously, it depends on where the individual lives as compared to the "repair person/store".
I have not needed any so far (fingers crossed), but if I ever do have any needed repairs did I would either try to get gunrunnerjohn or GGG (both forum members here) to do them. Marty Fitzhenry would be a good person as well, but I don't know if he takes on any outside repairs?
Unless of course it required factory repair like a Legacy system or something like that, then it would go to the manufacturer.
I do not chase outside repairs as I service the Legacy, TMCC, and DCS repairs for Charles Ro. He sells a few trains and you know how that goes. I have helped forum members with repairs they can not get done. I will always help any member with information if I can. George (GGG) Galyo, GunrunnerJohn, and Boxcar Bill to name a few are good qualified guys to go to. I have helped any forum member that have questionable boards as I have all the test equipment and support documents for Lionel and MTH.
I send all defective boards to George (GGG) and have had great results. He can do things MTH can not get done. John is extremely knowledgeable on doing repairs.
