I'm planning on re-working my Menards Fire Station into LACoFD Station 51 sometime in the near future. It's certainly proving to be more of a challenge to find any decent 1/48 (or even 1/43 or 1/50) fire apparatus that's not European or Asian prototypes. I wish there was still someone like Code 3 around, even though they were mainly 1/64. I'll likely end up modifying a Corgi Fire Heroes model.
Great topic! Have lots of corgi B Mack’s and one signature Mack C but no fire station on the layout yet
This is my 4 alarm fire scene
night scene

I WANT ONE!
Old fire scene from a long ago demolished layout using MTH "House on fire". Water recirculates from the tank, passes under the yard and street to the hydrant then through the pumper and up through the ground ladder attack line and through the window back down to the house tank . Over-scale windshield washer hose used in photo were later replaced by various close to scale aquarium tank hose. Aerial deluge gun is not charged. Dalmatian supervises from pumper deck.
I used to travel, installing the modern exhaust ventilation systems you see hanging in Govt garages, mostly F.D.s.. (the black/yellow tubes from the ceiling). My favorite part of the job was visiting the hundreds of well restored and/or maintained antique equipment. Twice, a pre 50s engine was put into action in rural areas. One was an REO ...it needed to stop every few miles to have the exposed valve train oiled by hand
I miss doing that job. Has anyone modeled Plymovent or similar inside a station?

Francis,
Great pictures. Your whole layout is one big emergency services diorama and it is great. I guess its the fire fighter in you.
Nice to see you posting again. Hopefully we can get some more folks over to your operating sessions.

Hi VistaDomeScott, Being asked to show more of part of my layout certainly is very nice. Thank you.
To put that neighborhood in perspective, of the whole layout, I established various neighborhood areas which were different from each other but understandable as parts of the same community. When a person gets to the bottom of the cellar stairs, here is how the layout, which I named "Moon Township," presents itself, with a little village neighborhood seen first...
As you would proceed down the viewing aisle, after the little village area comes the suburban neighborhood you asked about, on the left....Funny thing is, when I first started the layout, in 1995, the entire area of what is now the suburban neighborhood was initially modeled as a turntable, roundhouse, and freight yard. However, I soon lost interest in it because when we had visitors, I was more interested in making conversation than moving freight around, so my wife suggested, after a particular visit by friends, that I "get rid of it" (the yard, etc.) which I did. I felt she was right. That same miniature "acreage" has been this neighborhood ever since.
Reading your approval was most enjoyable. Thank you, again..

Frank, when my kids were little I used to tell them that after we went upstairs after running the trains the layout and all it's inhabitants would come alive and go about their daily lives and business. They just did not want to be seen by us humans. As expected, my kids believed this to be true. When it comes to your layout..... I'M BEGINNING TO BELIEVE IT!
While I currently don't have any emergency vehicles on my layout. I do plan on putting some in there eventually, though there is something I want to try if it would be even possible. Though I need to get the emergency vehicles first to test it out.

Great fun to hear that from you, Ganydancer! I'm glad I could tweak your imagination so much, with the result of your finding my layout work so realistic !

This is all good to see. When I was at TAS I designed a board with drivers for red and blue flashing LEDs and had four different siren sounds on it. Maybe I need to go find that.

A couple of police emergency on the layout. First one state troopers stopped a guy on a high speed chase, now with k9 searching the car. Second one a vehicle accident with entrapment
I guess you would signal Batman in an emergency, but his Batmobile is highspotted on the grade crossing. The Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Caddy behind him just wants to give it a shove. Instead, an embarrassed Bruce Wayne reluctantly asks Superman to give it a push. Meanwhile, Lamont Sanford scratches his head in disbelief at what he’s witnessing... wait till he gets home to Pop and tells him THIS story, he’s gonna have a heart attack! Elizabeth, he’s coming to join ya!
