One of our club members pruchased two CP ES44AC disel engines hoping to obtain two different cab #s (MTH proposed 8709, 8724 and 8729). He got two with the same 8724 cab numbers. He wants to change one of the 8724 to 8729.

We know that you can edit an engine description (from 8724 to 8729) in the DCS remote (Menu, System, Engine setup, edit engine, edit name) but it is temporary, meaning that if you have the engine recognized into a second DCS remote, it will pop up as 8724.

We know of no way to perform such a change in the engine using the DCS Consumer Loader v2.3.

The store has the the V. 2.0 DCS Service Loader but the technician is not sure as to how to go about it, that is permanently change the cab # (from 8724 to 8729) in the engine internal memory board so it will pop up as 8729 in any future DCS remote inscription.

Can someboby help us on this?

We do not need to change anything else than the internal cab # (no serial # change, etc).

Thank you

JP,

That's not true. The engine name is changed in the engine and will add to any DCS Remote using the Custom Name. A Factory Reset is what will cause the Custom Name to be removed.

The much bigger problem is that if the so-called tech isn't sure how to do this, you need a different tech.

Barry,

Thank you very much for your answer.

I am sorry for the bother ; I should have red page 39 of the companion.

As mentionned on that page, the factory 8724 may be changed to 8729 by the service loader. Can you kindly tell me which feature of the service loader has to be used to perform that specific change? It does not seem evident.

Easier said than done to get a new tech in our area; hope he learns something from this.

Regards
