I'm looking into purchasing the Lionel LCS ASC2 6-81639 and after reading the manual am looking for some clarification on how to properly power this and the accessories I'm planning on attaching to it.

First of all I know that I need a LCS DB-9 Cable with Power Supply 6-81499 to attach it to my Legacy system. On page 6 it clearly states "Power for each LCS device is supplied through the single LCS data cable."

Second, in the manual on page 14 it shows connecting the ASC2 to a accessory transformer. It clearly states "Your ASC2 requires an external power source to operate its 8 internal relays. This must be supplied from a separate accessory transformer and is required for both Accessory or Switch configuration of your ASC2."

Third, I see on page 20 that it shows connecting it to another accessory transformer. it shows "To connect a basic on/off accessory or light to your ASC2: 1. Attach one wire to the Power/A terminal on your power supply and connect it to the COMM terminal of the ASC2. 2. Attach another wire to the Common/Ground/U terminal on the power supply and connect to an accessory power terminal. 3. Attach a final wire to the remaining accessory power terminal and connect it to a numbered terminal on the ASC2."

So my question here is do I need to power this with 3 different power supplies, the wall wart and 2 accessories transformers? If that is the case so be it, but I feel that this is a little over kill and I'm afraid of over powering this thing and burning it out. Any insight into this is much appreciated.

The wall wart powers the logic of the ASC2. The A and U terminals (the two sets of them must be connected together) to power for the relays. And a third power source (or the same source as the A and U if you keep your comms sorted) will power the accessories at the contacts of the relays.

Hello, I am writing about a slightly different situation.  I have a  Lionel ASC2   6-81639  which I have configured in switch mode.  The LCS also has a Sensor Track and a Wifi.  When I turn off the Lionel Legacy 990 Controller and the MRC dual transformer which I have both on a switched outlet, sometimes the ASC2 remembers the switch configuration, but about one out of four times the configuration is lost.  I have to re enter the SW 1 SET AWK1. Or use the Lionel LCS iPad app. Either way the configuration is lost.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

I know this is a super old post but I had a similar question.

I have 4 switches.  These are the modern fastrack style.

I will be communicating with the asc2 from a new base 3.

Can I use power off my track to power the asc2?  Or yet another wall wort with dedicated 16vac for this little asc2 unit?

I wouldn't recommend it. Track power being 18V.   The manual states a 12V-14V accessory AC supply.  I have a 12V AC wall wart for mine.
