What is the best way to isolate blocks of Gargrave track?
Just leave a gap or put something in between?

Cut a gap with a dremel type tool and reinforced cutting disc.
Cutting a gap as described above AND putting in something to keep the track from ever re-connecting. Expansion in weather extremes can make this happen. Personally i use a piece of styrene or if you make your gap at the end joint, GG or Ross have insulating pins available.
I just cut gaps with a Dremel cut-off wheel and make sure there's no debris in the gap to bridge it. It's never been a problem. I certainly won't hurt to fill the gap with something, but that's more work.
Farmall- Joe is correct and so is Gunrunner John. But with model trains there are gremlins at work. I had a point to point trolley, at my club, that was controlled electronically and with just a gap. One day the trolley went crashing into the bumper. One of my astute members saw that the gap somehow closed up. Mystery solved and a piece of plastic (old credit card) prevented a reoccurrence.

Now, What about fastening Gargraves to a foam incline ? Right now I'm only going up 1.5" for a bridge approach. I am planning, however, on going up 6" for the upper level.
