I’m attempting to fix a modern Lionel 164 log loader. This one is 6-12915.
The motor works, pulled it out and tested it via 9v battery.
The gears will spin without the motor when I use my thumb to drive.
The grease isn’t hard, although I’m sure its old circa 1996.
The motor will drive the gearbox in the wrong direction (although with some clicking -not sure if that’s normal), but when I attempt to change the direction to the correct way, there is a single audible click and it jams to the point the motor can’t drive it either direction and I have to pull the plastic gearbox apart again for it to be able to move.
my hunch is that it has something to do with the gear that meshes with the worm on the motor as that shaft may be the source of the single click.
Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this one? Thank you!
