Engine modules

Legacy has 4 types of modules with 6 different module uses.

2x Blue Modules.  These are included with the Legacy System for the shipped version Software for the system (1-Cab2 and 1-Base).  Typically they were not needed when included with a new system but Lionel also used them when sending out "pre-programmed" system modules for upgrades.

2x Tan 1-Generic Steam and 1-Diesel for setting up the Legacy system for operating TMCC engines.  These were probably the most useless set.  They are no longer in the new systems.

Black writable modules.  Once these came out, users could create their own system upgrade modules via the internet and Lionel's LSU (Legacy System Utility) program.  You can also make multi-engine modules and engine modules using them similar to what used to come in the Legacy engines.  There is a way to make the Blue modules into writable but that's for another time.

Finally the orange module that used to come with the Legacy Engines.  They set up the Cab 2 and Legacy system with the parameters for the Legacy engine such as name, type, Legacy settings, etc.  I referred to these as the engine's "personality" module.  Lionel has stopped including these as all of the settings can be done in about a minute by entering the information manually.  Whether it's cost cutting or unnecessary can be debated but the bottom line is it was redundant.  The sensor track can also enter the info into the Cab2 just by the locomotive running over it.

That's a good explanation. I saved it! I didn't know about the tan modules. Not that I know a lot about this, but interesting to learn about.

Looks like four types to me Marty, unless you're using the "new math".

Well done Marty.  I am a huge fan of the LSU.
