OK, let me try this differently than the other post.

I tried to run a couple of engines that haven't run in some time. I get "engine not on track". I figured the remote wouldn't talk to them, because of low batteries? So I'm charging them.

The funny thing to me is, I put one of those engines on the track and the remote says "engine not on track". I connect the TIU to my computer with software, and the engine runs fine?

What am I missing?

The remote will control some engines fine. I'm running 4.2. It appears that the remote looses certain engines even when they are still in the remote.

Yes I know that I can delete and re-add them. I shouldn't have to. The fact that the computer runs them, makes me think it's in the remote software?

Was this a known bug?

Hi Joe: interesting for sure. I can't help but just a couple of comments. I didn't even know we could run  stuff using the computer.

Maybe not all  but some of us  have experienced losing a engine from the remote including the ID spot of the remote. The only fix was to reset the remote. Yes we've had a few occasions were one remote would run a engine but another wouldn't even though both had the same ID number. (delete and add again) The good news is... you're an experienced DCS user who knows how to fix these type of things when they show up. I guess there are always going to be glitches with dcs....  Makes it interesting I guess

I have to tell you I get the same thing routinely with a certain ps3 diesel.  I have better luck when I try to remember to let it charge up for a moment I try to pick it up with the remote.  I stopped deleting and reloading it. I find if I cycle the power on and off after it has had a chance to charge I have better luck.  I still shouldn't have to due something different for one loco, but I have learned to live with it.

New batteries installed this morning. After charging another engine all night, the remote couldn't run it. The computer ran it fine. Got to be something I'm missing?

Does it with PS2 or PS3 engines, good battery in ps2 or charged ps3s. Maybe the BAT symbol is coming up too late on Version 4.2? I don't remember any version losing engines because of battery issues in the remote.?

Gregg, Mark S offered software for running the TIU. I was intrigued because of the loader suggestion that it can sometimes communicate with a board even when a remote won't. I thought that it might offer troubleshooting help and it does.

I don't know what the computer control is either, sounds interesting. But, if that works, what about trying the phone cable connection between remote and TIU? Would that be similar to the computer link up? Could the loose board in the remote problem possibly be the culprit? Just suggesting here, you guys would know more about all this than I do though.

I used to have that happen here occasionally, on my temporary layouts. Since I built a more permanent layout and blocked all the loops using the MTH terminal strips as closely as possible to Barry's old book's instructions, I have not had a problem at all with anything DCS related, been over a year. I have only PS3 engines out and have had only those running for a while now. My only PS2 engine is back in it's box resting as it has been for quite sometime.

I suspect that the loco has been lost before you powered up the remote and discovered the loss.

Not that I'm aware of. It was a new loco, Dreyfus Hudson w/ PS3.

I have lost addresses before. This is the first time it was a recent add. The address was recently vacated though.

I didn't even know where to look for it. By using the computer program to read the TIU, I saw where the engine was and proved it ran good.

The remote retained the new consist where this was the lead engine. So I'm not really sure when the engine disappeared. I've only had the engine a short time.
