There was a recent article in either OGR or CTT regarding the use of kitbashed addons to enhance the look and use of Postwar accessories. One in particular came to mind when I received my Menards Door Factory.
I think it would fit nicely with the 264 Forklift, by adding a shed to hide the way the lumber gets scattered.

I keep hoping if someone could market a weathered shed to fit over the outdated #164 log loader, it would transform a great operating toy to a trackside accessory anyone would want on a layout.

I've got that log loader...what kind of shed where you thinking? I'm in the process od remotoring it to a DC gear drive...son said it's too loud.

I guess a weathered woodsided plastic structure that could slip over the #164 with windows up front to view the chain drive and open in the rear to unload the wood. a design that would take away the toy look and make it trackside presentable.
Im clueless when it comes to kitbashing so my only hope is a third party offering a kit updating a few of those unrealistic PW accessories that operate great but look silly on a modern layout.

I think that there is really a market for old operating accessories in new clothing. Check out this video where the guy films his op accessories and adds sound. Of course he just dubbed the effects over the video but this can easily be done these days.

No different then aftermarket electronic kits.
With all those outdated PW accessories out there, I think its a no-brainer with good returns for anyone willing to do it right.
The only surprise here is how no one has done it yet.

I haven't done any add-ons to accessories yet, just dabbled with painting and weathering them.
I started on the coal ramp some time ago, but it has languished over the past year.

That lumber mill in dark green and #164 log loader have never looked better.
I didn't think weathering alone could make such a drastic difference, but from those photos it sure has.
That layout looks great.

Yes it is great work by Zeke and Hugh. The custom paint makes them more realistic.
Back to my original question. Did anyone see the article that I described? I didn't dream it; the modeler built wooden additions to some of the classic accessories.
