First, I want to Thank Daniel, aka Frenchtrains, as this really was just a chance encounter entirely due to this forum and the type of members in it.  I'll try to keep this updated a bit and hopefully will keep interest long enough to get it put back together.

Parts I know I need so far:

Fire box wrapper sheet

Both tender coal pile extensions

One of the cab floor parts

Here are some of Daniel's photos for reference and then as it arrived so you can see the starting point.  Man I knew these were big, but holy cow!!!!  and for reference, a real nice one as seen on that auction site...

Here are the photos as I just opened it up an hour ago.  Already stripping parts for paint.  I'm working on the tender trucks first.  I haven't checked yet, but does anyone know if repro decals are available for this thing? I put that little 338 std Pullman in to show relative size lol.

Are the decals on it in good shape? If so, take high-quality pictures and send them to Stan. He will make them for you. Won't be cheap, but you are building a high-end item. What did that other one sell for at auction?

George

I was thinking about Stan, your right, he could do it.  It's the NYC on the tender sides that I think I'd need.  I think the small decals are available.  Your probably right though.  I bet Stan could fit the NYC and the Erector from the Cab sides on one decal sheet.  May have to hit him up on that. The tender sides are flat so I could probably just lay them on a scanner and go to town.

That other on is still on line I think.  They are asking $3500 stating it is top end.  I honestly don't know this market, but I am realizing these Hudson's don't grow on tree's and seemingly each special part is pricey.  There were also other Erector parts in the batch including the dragline bucket.  I don't think that one is too hard to get, but the clamshell bucket is.  Would love to built the giant coal loader they showed on the 1920's manuals.

Sooooo... I'm wondering how this would work modified to run on STD gauge track.  If you move the wheels all the way in, it's actually pretty close.  If it were not for the screw shoulders on the wheels, I think you could nearly do it.  Very tempting, but then I wouldn't destroy the original tin on this monster either.....  Just a crazy thought.  Would need some big radius.  I'm almost surprised no one ever tried it.....Put a big can motor in it and it would be a true beast, make a 600E look small!
