Having studied and collected US trains from the 1930's-50's I feel im ready to expand my knowledge and collection---anybody else interested in European trains from that period? seems that europe has a vibrant steam program with many engines still making regular appearances--anyone have any good reference materials? I always liked the movie The Train and that shows a lot of european steam

Oh yes! I'm a big enthusiast of Nigel Gresley and Andre Chapelon. Not too many models, although I do have the MTH French 241A.
Do you mean models made in the 1930s to the 1950s, or prototypes of that era? Though primarily HO, are you familiar with www.ETE.org ? Their quarterly magazine is interesting. I like the prototypes, the models are wonderful, but scarce if you're looking for old European models made in that era.
