One main reason for building my layout- time for “PaPa” to share life lessons with grandkids. I had the opportunity to share the layout over xmas. Beckham is 21 months old. Two weeks later....

The best money you ever spent! It has been the same with my grandkids.

To be fair, he’s at the library
Good for you C&O Nick
Those wooden Thomas the Train items are about the only thing I saved from my sons possessions when he was young. They're still in good shape and hold their value well not that I'd sell them. He can use them for his kids one day. He can have everything but the train table - I used that to hold all my power supplies, controllers, etc for my layout. He quickly graduated to real trains but like most, lost interest around 7 or 8. Fortunately, we share common interests in other areas and as friends have commented, continue to share a close bond into his teenage years (17 in March).

I miss those days with my boys, and they were cut short for my youngest. We moved when they were 5 and 2. New kids the older boy friended informed them that Thomas was “stupid”, and both boys stopped playing with them. I am still ****ed off at those kids.
Still have all of the wooden trains, just in case....
I thought "return on investment" might have to do with our O Gauge trains. Now that would have been funny!
Seriously that age is great for an intro to trains. My 4-1/2 year old grandson has been playing with Brio since about age 2. Loves it.

The investment is in my Trains- toward the end of capturing time and teaching valuable lessons to my grandkids. (Similar to bait) Beckham was thrilled over xmas to see my layout, and is now enamored with the “Choo choo.” This part is a bonus.
I understand that Sir Rod Stewart has built an enormous train layout.
