That’s awesome!

LinkedIn had a post this morning that there is a chance that the L3s NYC Mikado in Elkhart might be going to Fort Wayne.  I assume this is related?

That engine in Elkhart is an NYC L3a 4-8-2 “Mohawk” not a Mikado.

Pretty much ANY steam locomotive that hasn't already been cut up for scrap, is restorable. All it takes is money.

In the video they estimate the cost to be $4.5 million. So yes.

Fair point.
Then maybe I should rephrase my question.

Is the locomotive financially viable for repair? I am thinking with the information being teased, it might be.

Carl, I thought the same thing. The first 4 minutes or so of the video are the same as the teaser but after that it is different.

I feel the same way as I did when it was announced that the 4014 would be restored to operational status but dare I say even more excited because with the FWHS it will be easier to buy a ticket and ride behind the 3001 (some day) as excursions with the 4014 are limited.

I just watched the video.  Again, I repeat what I said earlier - it would be great to see this locomotive ride the rails again.

Wouldn't it be something to see that NYC face on a living steamer, Commonwealth pilot, drop-coupler, NYC oval and all?

I'll be donating to the project. If this happens, along with the two apparently-saved NYC S- and T-motor electrics, it would go a long way toward keeping at least a minuscule remnant of a nearly completely destroyed railroad alive, or at least present.

Not only that, but pulling the NYC Empire State Express passenger consist on ex-NYC track on a route where they used to run!

I would really enjoy having a seat behind 3001 with any passenger cars it pulled.

Is it done yet? How much are tickets?

I got to see the 765 in person and it was a sight. These things are beasts. I think this is so cool.

Now, I just hope it gets to run to Buffalo, NY.
