Hey everyone, thanks for all the help I've been receiving here on forum. I'm just getting started with the hobby - building bench work right now.
I'm building up around the late 60s - early 70s Santa Fe. My favorite scheme is the Cigar Band freight scheme - I can't find much as far as whose made these. I'd appreciate any help in identifying whose made these or other models in this scheme.

I have an MTH A-B-B-A set both A-units are powered and converted to TMCC so no cables are needed. I will sell these cheap. Email me if you are interested and I can send you pics.
Hey Jim,
Sent you an email. Haven't heard from you.
As far as Cigar Band Santa Fe Locos F units - FP45, what I've found available out there:
MTH 20- 2055-1. F7.
MTH 20-2145-1. FP45
Williams 4303 / 4720 F7 - looks VERY toy like to me from pictures.
Haven't found anything else - some whisker paints but not cigar band. SD45 looks like it's been released with Bookend and Yellow Bonnet by MTH and bookend by Williams (along with later paint schemes).
Does that pretty well cover it?

I'm not clear whether you are limiting your options to paint jobs with the cigar band logo or F units only or if you are open to anything era appropriate. If you want to model Santa Fe late 60s, early 70s, then the bookend paint scheme is appropriate as well, and you can go with the SD45 (available as Railking Scale model) and the Premier GP35 as well.
You've found the only blue and yellow FP45 MTH made. That's an older conventional-only model. (You might start a thread lobbying MTH for a PS3 remake). Williams also made an FP45, though I don't know if they did it in blue and yellow. That one's kind of oversized for O scale. Santa Fe's freight yellowbonnet came into service in 1972, so if "early 70s" goes that far for you, then the Premier SD45 and GP35 also are options as I guess is the U25 and perhaps some others.

Don't forget 3rd Rail's ATSF Cigar Band offerings:
FT AB sets all powered units with the B slaved to the A.
F7 A and B units all powered and are in production now. Each unit is independent.
While a little more expensive than what has been mentioned, the level of detail is comparable to brass offerings at a fraction of what brass goes for.
Dad worked yard in Topeka most of my childhood f45s, sd40s, sd45s, cf7s (junk), and the various uboats. Dad wasn't big on GE til recent years. He much preferred the EMD models.
Yea - eventually I'd like to pick up yellow and blue units for sd40-2, various Us, etc. but focused right now on these first engines dad ran - the F7, FP45/F45, and whatever SD45 is out there.
Just starting my layout - I've got a thread on that forum - planning to go conventional for foreseeable future - keep things simple - likely will run a couple z-1000s to save on initial cost.
Well, I've never heard the term "cigar band" in relation to Santa Fe paint schemes.
I know it only as a NYC term.
Which schemes specifically fall under the ATSF "cigar band" heading? (Photos?)
I guess that I've learned something.
My understanding is that Santa Fe Freight went through several paint schemes - Beginning with the Cat Whiskers Theme:
Which was replaced by what I have always heard referred to as the Cigar Band:

Jake -
I sent you five pictures (via email) yesterday. I will re-send them now.
Lionel made a set of F-3s in this scheme around 1990 (18117). There were originally 2 a units with magnetracion and horn, then a b unit then anothe rb unit with railsounds. I have all 4 plus a williams F-7b I pained to match. Makes a beautiful consist at the head of a long freight.

Interesting - these look like combination of the Whiskers and Cigar paint job. Thanks for the heads up.

I've got the Premier SD45 and GP35 on my future wish list. They both look very accurate.
I'm curious - are the Williams and Railking the only bookend SD45s out there?
Does anyone have pictures they can post of MTH 20-20055-1 ? MTH's website has an ok side view but I can't find a picture of the front anywhere.
