I have a problem with an 036 fast track switch, with the power to the track off,the switch works manualy both ways, with the power on & the switch in the strait position & i try to work the switch either way with the remote lever it will not change direction,if with the power off & i move the switch to the curved position manualy, then as soon as i put the power back on the switch turns to the strait position without me doing anything, any ideas what the problem could be?,it hasn't been used for awhile if that has anything to do with it.

Is this a remote switch? Sounds like the anti-derail function is stuck on the thru. Check for shorts in your track as well as in the switch itself.
It sounds like you have the switch powered from a different transformer than the track, or an auxiliary terminal on one transformer.
Does this happen to only one switch?
Did you do any rewiring since you last used the switch?
Turn off track power and align the turnout for the curved position. Turn off the power to the turnout and turn on the track power. See if the turnout throws back to the straight position by itself.
Align the turnout to the curved position. Shut off all power and disconnect the controller from the switch. Turn on the power for the turnout and then track power and see if the turnout still throws to the straight position by itself.
Check the anti-derailing feature with track power off, but turnout power on. Run a car by hand through the turnout with the points set wrong and see if the points throw properly.

SINCLAIR,Yes this is a remote switch,it has been working since i installed it,i tried another remote & it still didn't work right,so the problem is in the switch.
TrainLarry, It is powered from the track which gets it's power from a 180 watt powerhouse,i will try what you said tomorrow ,to see if i can find the problem,i will then post what i have found out,& yes this is the only switch i am having a problem with
I went down to the layout just for fun & see if i could fix the problem tonight, for some reason i decided to take the wires for the remote controler, they go to a barrier strip and stripped the wires [one had broken off while i was trying to fix the problem],so i just did them all & i put a little soder on each one then i put the wires back into the barrier strip, well now the switch works just fine, why it stopped working to start with i can't figure out, because when i put the switch in months ago it was working fine, anyway it is working fine now, thanks for your replies.
Gerald,
If you're using stranded wire, at that gauge it is entirely possible you had one strand work it's way to the other side and short. It can often be difficult to see.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.
Just one more observation i have found,i just came up from the layout & i was playing around with the with the problem switch & what i have found is the problem was caused by an engine parked to close to the switch, which usually would cause the derailing feature to operate, once i moved the engine a little further away from the switch,it would work properly,as soon as i moved the engine closer to the switch,i could not get the switch to work with the remote lever,i verified this with a different engine on a different switch,i was able to duplicate the original problem, that is what was causing my problem,an engine parked to close to the switch on a siding,as i have said before i did this on another switch with another engine,& i had the same problem,so this confirmed my original observation.
Gerald,
Glad you found the problem, operator error! With the anti-derailing switches you can not leave an engine or any rolling stock close up to your switches, the auto function is activated by their presents.
