Quick question. I have a bridge I am installing and I have to transition from Fastrack to Tubular on the bridge since the Fastrack is too wide for the bridge and bridges look funny having ballast on them always. Is standard O tubular the same height as Fastrack?

Jim... Are you using O27 or O track for the tubular? I think the O27 is lower than the FasTrack but I will go check.
"Standard" O-Gauge track is 11/16 inches and O27 is 7/16 inches (according to the Lionel website). I was not able to find an official number for FasTrack but I measured a piece and it looked like 5/8. My measuring may not have been accurate because I think I recall that O-Gauge is the same height and O27 needs to be shimmed. I hope this helps.
JIM would it be possible to trim the outside edges of the fast track with a dremmel
tool so it would fit. I don't know how wide the fast track is.Just a thought.
Thanks, ALEX
Why don't you use the Fastrack to tubular transition piece? Just a thought.

While on the subject of bridges, I note that MTH are making their bridges Fastrack compatible now.
Jim,
Hopefully that will work. I have had good luck with the FasTrack/Ogauge transition piece though I haven't tried it with O27 (where the pins are smaller). I have heard people using the O-Gauge pins on O27 but you have to force them in and tighten the joint when you're done.

i could not use the transition piece since both ends of the bridge are coming off of curves.
It did work out the way I did it and was running trains over the bridge last night.

I'm glad you didn't use fastrack on the bridge. Ballasted track on bridges and trestles is not prototypical and every time I see it used that way it makes me grit my teeth.

I didn't realize that. Thanks for clarifying. I'll remember what you did in case I need to do the same.

Depends on the bridge, trestles and trusses no, but others, oftentimes, yes.
