Can I pull a pin out of FasTrack so that it's insulated from a preceding track?

Here's the application/need.  I am displaying my trains on shelves with straight track.  I'd like to light up the passenger trains and have an engine on display in front of them but, of course, not have the engine move. This is easy with tubular track....just replace the metal pin on the center rail with a fiber pin and make sure the engine is front of the fiber pin and the passenger cars are behind it.

I needed some of my display's tubular track for my layout but have some extra FasTrack that I could put on the display.  Problem is I'm not sure if I can do the same as above with tubular track.

Suggestions?

I have taken pins out, but sometimes it turns out less than desirable. You have to open the tabs underneath and pry the rail up. Sometimes the rail will not go all the way back down. If you have a 1 3/8" section you can remove the wire on the center rail and use that. Or you can cut either the pin or the rail with a rotary tool. I hope one of these options helps you out. In your case, why not put some electrical tape on the center rail where the rollers sit?

I have removed the pins as John H. has indicated and had no issues.  The nice thing about doing this is that this doesn't require cutting the rail. You will want to also remove the metal plate that goes from the center rail to the outside on your insulated rails.  I found this in another e-mail forum thread about Fastrack that walks you through it.
