My favorite Soundset is the MTH Railking Berkshire RFP 573 (30-1521-1). Sounds of the whistle was and I think it is still the sounds similar to the NKP 765. What is your favorite soundset(Engine with the soundset)?

My vote is for the SD70ACe. It sounds spot on to me.
A close second would be the GP38-2.
My most enjoyable is the MTH UP 4-12-2 steam locomotive. That 3-cylinder exhaust plus the Star Brass UP freight whistle is VERY impressive.
Tim,
I like the sounds in the MTH P2 263E Tin Plate, way cool stuff, especially the brakes, Chuff Rate control, Clickly Clack, & TA announcements.

Diesel, Gulf Mobil & Ohio RS-3. That Alco sounds just like the ones I use to remember.
Steamer, Spokane Portland & Seattle Z-6

The VO-1000, I love the startup sound, just like a real cold diesel engine.
To me nothing beats the sound of the MTH Railking Alco RS1.
Not sure I can choose just one.............
- MTH SD70ace (the sound set with the UP heritage premier series since there are a few versions of this engine and at least 3 different sound sets I can find)
- CSX AC60 (so the premier AC6000)
- Union Pacific 4-12-2 (upgraded sound set I have on my you tube page, NativeFLA)
- any of the Premier 4-4-0 wood burning steam engines
- Premier Hillcrest Lumber shay
Steam: WM H9 2-8-0
Diesel: SD70ace
The Weed Sprayer PFA sounds.
Older PRR PS 2.0 R-T-R 2-8-0 it had an amazing effect that sounded like the Doppler effect of other trains on the rails. I believe it is on the both the Passenger sound set and the Freight Yard sound set.
The Chessie Steam Special 2.0 sounds from 2006 gets my vote, and as a result the 2014 version in Proto 3.0. The whistle is awesome, as is the bell, chuffing, and the excursion passenger effects.
Stone throwers on the CNJ SD-35 video here -

"Ah, looks like they got away"
R-36 WF Subway, 1st addition, "Coney Island Yard"
SIRT S2, the sounds we all made and submitted to MTH
- CSX AC60 (so the premier AC6000)
Ditto on the AC6000 (20-2834-1)
It's V stacks are pretty cool as well for the twin smoke plumes.

Wow!!That is a long train its pulling.Your right about the whistle sounds alsome.Go to youtube and you can see the real thing.
Here's my list:
- GP38-2 engine sounds. The horn is pretty generic, but the rev-up/down sounds are great.
- SD70ACe engine sounds. Right on the money. There are several horns depending on which engine you get.
- ES44AC.
- C40-8/C40-8w. Great engine sound. Again, there are horn variations depending on which one you get -- sometimes within the same road which is pretty cool.
- C44-9W.
- New ATSF Hudson sound set. Used in both the shrouded (Blue Goose) and non-shrouded versions.
- AGEIR Box cab. That small-displacement, 300HP diesel clatter is great with that little single-chime horn.
On the MTH Hillcrest Climax
"JD where did you put the bottle"?

I like the U.P. Sperry rail car... big sounds in a little unit.
Recently I heard the new PS3 GN 4-8-4 S-2 (I think). Incredible detail and really nice sounds... watch out Lionel!
How about the PS 3.0 sounds in the CSX AC4400CW?

I agree with Matt on the GP38-2's, and I think the GP35's are great, too! Here are two videos, one with a pair of Providence & Worcester GP38-2's (both units powered--with PS 3.0), and one with a pair of Guilford GP35's (one powered-with PS 3.0 & one non-powered-no sound). I apologize for the not-so-great video quality...but the sound quality is pretty good. Turn up your speakers!!
MTH Premier Providence & Worcester GP38-2's--Both Powered w/PS 3.0
MTH Premier Guilford GP35's--Powered w/PS 3.0 and Non-powered...
I don't have a lot of MTH engines, but really like the LIRR RS-3 sounds.
The SIRT ALCo S-2 is beautiful, the stuff legend. I just wish I could find one of the locomotives but till then I will have to settle for YouTube videos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYNCAD20qsw
However, SIRT 's layout provides the perfect setting:
The rock throwing incident may have been "sanitized" but is otherwise accurate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26OZTqq1v_8
The shut down sequence is classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlGvt5tp5XI
My only disappointment is the mispronunciation of the word "advance"; when used in referring to the Staten Island Advance, the local paper which used to get newsprint by rail, the proper pronunciation is "Add-vance".
The French 241A Orient Express steam engine. Love that screaming European whistle, and the announcements in French!
Second place, probably the 4-12-2. The three-cylinder sound is great.

This so-called "Doodlebug" makes the most unique sound I have ever heard from a railroad train when it starts up. It goes, "Chikchikrumblerumblegurglehhuuummmmhuummmmmrollinalongpurrrpurrrrr...." or something like that. I have assumed it mimics the sound the real thing makes when it starts up, though I never heard one in real life. I added the trailing-coach for some darn reason.
