We have talked a lot about the 6464 cars this week. While I love them, they are not my favorite PostWar non-operating car.......mine is the 6361 Timber Transport car. This car was made from leftover tooling. The car started as a lumber unloading car and then the frame saw life as a carrier of freight car trucks. Carrying large pieces of timber was a great idea. In fact, this car might even look OK with a scale-like consist.

my 3454 Merchandise Car. It's missing some of the mechanism, so technically it's a non operating car...I found this car in a junk box the first time I got to visit Lou Palumbo's Underground Railroad Shop for a whole $2.
I like the metal single dome tank cars. They are one of the few that can be restored to like new by an amateur (no pad printing or heat stamp tools required) and they are scale size so fit in even today.

Either the tank car or the Lehigh Valley hoppers. If I ever get a big layout, I will have a unit train of those hoppers!
Bangor and Aroostook 6464 boxcar. Can't beat it for colorful!
The State of Maine Bangor and Aroostook 6464 Box Car is one of my favorites. It is just such a nice paint scheme.
6362 Truck Car. Always been my favorite. Partly due to it beingorange and that I like rolling stock that carries something toy train related.
My first favorite was X1004 the orange, double door, Lionel 'Scout Set' type of P.RR. 'Baby Ruth Candy' box car.
It was part of the first Lionel set of trains I received and I always admired this car.
I'd like to see Lionel reproduce it in a full 1:48 scale sized model, with all of the necessary detailed attachments and markings.

For some reason I've always liked these
I like my original Lionel car carrier with the original cars on it.
As a car enthusiast, I really like the Evan's Auto Loader, though the 6342 culvert gondolas are another favorite of mine.
6414 Evans Auto Loader, or the Pyro Military Flats with vehicles!
That's easy - the 2530 Large Door Baggage Car.

The 6352 technically is a operating car but I don't own the ice loader accessory.

I had this flatcar as a kid and you can load anything on it and if you ever step on it you'll never do it again those metal stakes hurt!

Very hard to pick just one favorite, but I would say the 2555 Sunoco tank car. I like the scale size, metal construction and the overall looks of the car. As has been said they are very easy to restore to like new condition.

A couple of my choices have already been mentioned (the orange Gulf tanker and the B&O Automobile Car).
Here's another favorite. Classic PW Lionel Lines Caboose.
The Lionel Chessie I-12 caboose. The smoke output is so poor it does nor really qualify as "operating" but it is a miniature work of art.
Mine is a 6262 wheel car from the fifties with a red car body and a grey wheel holder. My father bought it but I can't remember what store he bought it from.

Same situation here. I got it as part of my 1954 freight set, and I have always liked it. It must be the color and the double doors. I always have it on the layout.
My favorite as a youngster was an orange Baby Ruth boxcar that came with my Lionel Scout Set from 1949 or 1950, large non-operating couplers and all. That car is still very special to me.

This one has always been my favorite.
While love the 6464 Rio Grande Box Car I saw once for looks,
this Allis Chalmers is one of the most interesting non operating ever produced.
