I went by my LHS today to pick up more #28 gauge wire to work on my ‘Streets cars and they had the Woodland Scenics Ethyl’s gas station for me.  I just love these built up buildings, and decided, for once, to leave one pretty much as is, but had a lot of fun finding a site, arranging the people and cars, etc., and making up my story behind it.

Ethyl’s is just a plain-Jane country service station – a place to stop for gas, a tire repair or whatever, and get a Coke and a friendly reception, except . . .

It may look like Ethyl has competition just over the hill/tracks, back by the lake, where you can see Lucus Doolin’s garage by the lake.  But Ethyl is Mrs. Doolin.  Lucus, never the most PC of people a definitely a man of his time, explains to his friends that he always preferred “high test” women and so he married the top grade.

Anyway, Lucus bankrolled  the whole thing, just so there would be a nice looking service station staffed by helpful, friendly peoplea quarter mile before vacationers, tourists, and families out for a Sunday drive might be tempted to stop at his place.  Lucus’s customers are serious about speed – at least enough to leave revenuers in the dust - but  prefer to keep a low profile.  Lucus sees no reason why anyone should get close enough to that light green ’49 Ford to notice it has a big Cadillac V8 in it or that those are custom-made headers being welded on.  BTW - that’s Lucus (Robert Mitchum, Thunder Road) leaning on the old darker green Ford as he talks to Phillip Marlowe
