Here is a link to my older thread on how I did my first sound car. Mostly, I used the movies and my computer to edit the sounds, and then a great asset to the ITTProducts loaded them to a sound card and some help from the forum on a simple circuit needed.

Also can the mini commander work conventionally with either the Whistle or bell button on the transformer.

The ERR command products also run in conventional mode.  If you have a RailSounds Commander, they'll react to the whistle and bell buttons in command mode as well.

A good choice for this upgrade is the ERR Cruise Commander Lite, still listed at $50 MSRP on their site.  It's cheaper than the MC2, and gives you cruise control as well, pretty hard to pass up.  You can fit the CC-Lite, RS Commander, and the speaker into the tender without too much trouble.

It's interesting to see that the pilot lanterns aren't lit on the Hogwarts version of this engine. On my Santa's Flyer version, the headlight is a yellow LED, and the pilot lanterns are lit with white LEDS. It gives a very nice lighting effect.

I also added a flashing red rear warning light to the rear passenger car, and drilled out two holes and glued in some F-3 porthole lens to make rear windows, which I like better than a blank rear on the end car.
