Couple of weeks ago I picked up my first pre-war tinplate at a local train show. No big collection just a nice Lionel 1682 caboose, 1680 tank car, a 651 flat and another really roached out 1682, all for $40.

I needed something to pull them, but didn't see anything worth buying. For now I'm making due with a modified Marx loco!

The trucks and coupler of the beater caboose were used to modify an old Marx tin tender. The loco is a modified Marx 898 pretending to be a Lionel 259.  LOL

Pappy,

Yep Tin Plate is definitely the dark side to the realistic guys, some day when they become our age, they will figure out that this is a lot of fun, my layouts are not realistic, they are meant to be a childs wonderland and IMO Tin Plate makes that happen in some incredible ways.  Dave at Bill & Walts is reworking an old Black 259E engine & tender right now for me to add to my Tin Plate layout, should be done this week.

Thanks guys,

I've been bitten by the tin bug for about a year or so from Marx tin, mostly the 3/16" scale stuff, and few pieces of 6" and 7" 4-wheel stuff. Also a few post-war Lionel tin cabooses and a crane. Been wanting to get some pre-war trains for awhile now. Hope to get some Flyer O-gauge too at some point.

The Tin Man always was my favorite character from the Wizard of Oz!
