We are beginning our train table. For the framing that will be under the plywood we'd like to pre-drill the holes for the wiring -(doing the work in the shop first) what would be the ideal size hole and spacing for the holes ? Our layout is about 250 sq ft  Thank you

After doing a few layouts with 1" holes in the framework, I now prefer to use cable clamps attached with screws because the wire can be be added and removed from them easily for making connections without leaving excess wire length in the buses.  They can also be added where ever needed at any time.

@Tom Tee provided very good advice about holes at the referenced point in the thread, but the whole thread is very worthwhile in my opinion.
