Thinking about fixing my Milwaukee Road 261 S3.

Years ago when I purchased the 6-11229  S3, which was new at the time, the sound didn't work. I opened the tender to install a 9 volt battery and in closing it back up pinched a wire.

I heard a snap, pop, and a nice lick of smoke rolled out. I opened up the tender again, which was when I saw the crushed wire and looking at the sound board could see burnt component damage.

Several attempts to purchase/ swap a new board with Lionel over the years went nowhere. Lionels emails said to just order a new board but the order page says must contact lionel for new board.

I went around and around with them a few times like that until I just gave up. I gutted the tender and installed a ERR sound lite board with a reed switch on the tender wheels for chuff.

I guess my question is, How difficult, expensive would it be to bring the S3 to factory sound package. If that is not possible how can I get the sound chuff to match the smoke puffs.

I imagine I would have to run a tether wire from the engine rcmc board to the tender err sound lite board.

      Any ideas,

                                                                                       Thanks Dan

Thanks for the replies Engineer Joe.

Gunrunner John did help me with his superchuffer which I put in a Weaver Baltic.

It's because of that great upgrade I'm thinking about fixing the S3.

The S3 already does puff good smoke but with the ERR sound commander they're not in sync.

If I cannot purchase a new board maybe somebody knows if there is a trigger pin in the engine RCMC board.

Bummer to hear about ERR closing. I've done a few tmcc upgrades of the years. I might have to buy a few spares before they close.
