G gauge MTH diesel batteries

Are they in a black holder? My BigBoy I bought had that. It's the same as the blue battery packs. If you have an extra plug for the blue packs you can just swap it out.

They are marked 1.2 volt and read 1.34 on my meter.

UnleSs you use a batty tester, a meter will read only surface voltage. You need to test batteries under a load, or use a battery tester, which places the battery under a load.

 Thanks Ralph, I'll try that first when I get her apart. My Challenger had the blue pack inside the boiler when it acted up. The Triplex did too.

 Woops, just got your post Barry. Yeah, they may fail under load. I'd bet that too because of their age. I'll swap out the battery first.

Just get two rechargeable AA and use them.  Some early stuff used 2 AA vice the battery pack.  G

Tried it again and it finally took. That's what I get for going on vacation. Everything needs attention.
