I'm not sure about any hobby or train shops, but you should stop at Dollywood. It's a great amusement park with a great steam engine train, that travels around the entire park. It's a beautiful train ride , Dollywood is only 10 to 15 minutes away from Gatlinburg.

If your a railfan and you are going to Decatur, Alabama, make sure and check out the newly restored depot in the old downtown area next to the Tennessee River. The CSX and NS come together and use the same draw bridge to cross the river. Since there are two railroads involved, there is still quite a bit of traffic.
Raised in Decatur (left 1980), know exactly where the "old" L&N station is, will be sure to revisit. Worked at the boat harbor 61-62 (summers) and had a great view of both the highway Draw bridge and the train bridge.
