Now that I am four years older than I was when I built my "big" layout and only one year away from turning 70 (yikes!)

I thought that this "3 in 1 creeper" might help. I showed the picture to my chiropractor and he said it was a good idea. At least it will support my back while working under the table.

I bought it on eBay, from Toolsmith Direct - made by Powerbuilt Model #640981, for $65.99 with free shipping. Weighs about 20 pounds, so pretty easy to carry if needed. Also can be made into a seat with a neat little parts tray. In addition, it can lay flat in case I want to take a little snooze under the table!

Anyone have experience with this unit?

Building your own creepers was the subject of Jim Barrett in OGR some years ago. And I have seen other such articles. Once I saw those, I began keeping my eyes open for stuff in the junk that would adapt to the purpose. Luck struck and I ended up with two nice home made jobs. One used to be a wheeled metal frame to hold a baby crib. I just put some wood on top and a doubled-over thrift-store carpet runner on top of the wood. The other one used to be a rolling fish tank stand. It had no tank when I found it and again, I stuck some wood on top. I still need to add the carpet pad for comfort. On either one I can lay on my back and reach up to the bottom of the layout with some flexibility to spare, Both stands roll easily under my 255 pounds.

The only caveat to creepers, home made or store-bought, is that the supports under your layout have to be widely spaced enough to let the creeper through. So a bit of planning ahead is useful here.
