Frosting Applications or Techniques

Hi Marshelangelo,

I use clear plastic from packaging like toys, tools, etc. and cut out strips or individual windows as needed.  I used blue tape to hold the strips to a piece of cardboard and then sprayed them with a clear dullcoat spray.  It was either Krylon or Rustoleum.  I wasn't sure if I needed to, but I painted both sides.  It came out great.  I get a nice glow from the LED lights inside.

There was a recent forum thread (https://ogrforum.com/...del-windows-question) about frosting/glazing clear plastic, with lots of great suggestions from members.

Personally I've used scotch tape with good results.

Appreciate the help CA John and AcelaNYP, I just finished ordering 2 bottles of Testors Dullcoat although I was thinking of scotch tape also.  I'll see which technique I find easiest and which one I like the most.  Thanks again fellas

For a frosted window look try vellum. You can use it by itself or behind clear plastic. I use it both ways. Spraying with Dullcote will not harm it.

I lightly sand clear plastic with a dremel tool.  You have to sand it in multiple directions or else you'll see directional lines.

If you want a cheap easy to use frosted look plastic, use milk jug plastic, or some 1/2 gallon or gallon water jugs …..also makes a good light diffuser…..although I’d drink the milk first before cutting out the squares…..😁

I just built a set of Kasiner streamlined coaches and used this stencil material for the windows.
