Bob, where do you get a brass Erie Built cab?
There are a couple of 3-rail Atlas Milwaukee Road Erie-Builts on eBay (powered/unpowered) that are going to sell for a lot of money after this announcement was made yesterday.
M J Breen posted:Not to be off topic - but I'm very happy to see the heavyweight cars return too. I'll be loading up on N&W Baggage cars for sure on this announcement.
I mentioned to Scott at York that the N&W crowd has a need for good scale passenger equipment and I hope he keeps making more!! I have lots of Js needing trains to pull.
And Scott, if you are reading this please don't forget about the Southern Tenneessean too.
Yes to both of these.
Sad, 2 years ago I had a set of MR Erie Builts and I sold em.
Yeah I really like them, Thanks again.
No problem Alan, I'm glad you like them and I had and still have no use for them. They're nice but alas only one powered unit doesn't have the nuts to pull the train i want
Matt: it is called "lost plastic". I am simulating a prewar sand cast Erie-Built. I know such a thing existed, because I have a sand cast roof and sand cast "fabricated" trucks. I did the B-17 windows with candle wax. I have since made them a lot more symmetrical.
I have no idea how I will do the chrome corrugations. And I will be inaccurate - Milwaukee had no Erie-Builts with B-17 windows and fabricated trucks.
I need another passenger train like I need a hole in the head - but I have a soft spot for that Skytop.
but alas only one powered unit doesn't have the nuts to pull the train i want
Yes I know. That's why I took your MR Power unit frame and changed the shell to the Olympian Hiawatha (OH)dummy A that is no longer a dummy A!
Now I have TWO linked OH power A's with, of course, 4 motors. I am now adding 2 more motors into the OH dummy B for a grand total of 6 (six) motors.
thanks again.

I was watching them all. I have a saved search in my eBay app if someone lists them I get notifications. Two of the 4 listed items were C-6 or C-7 at best and they sold for quite some money. The new in BOX ones sold for top dollar.
If I was going to spend that money on O scale Erie Built's..... I would do it on some 3rd rail ones....... (If they were made)
This GGD Super Chief is the answer to my needs. I've had some engines that didn't have a train.
Finally a solution!
Now I can replicate this picture.
Regarding the Atlas Erie Builts, they did a great job. Tom is correct, but there isn't anything better. I two railed mine.

Sweet, marker!
dkdkrd posted:Glad to see these two trains being made....correctly. Especially the 1938 Super Chief.
But, it only adds to my never-ending frustration over the absence of an O3R model of Santa Fe's 2 Class, E-1's.
The 2 Class...the Key version of which is shown in Santiago's beautiful photos above...engine numbers 2-9...were built by EMC from 12-37 through 4-38, to complement the new (1938) Super Chief streamliners.
So, here's a switch for ya!.....Instead of engines being made in O3R for which the appropriate complementing...and accurate!...passenger consist may lag by years....if ever!!...THIS time we can enjoy having a passenger consist on our O3R layout for which the iconic engine-of-the-same-era is NOT available....nor even hinted/supported for future production.
Oh, sure,....when the 11 Class ATSF E-6's came along (8-39 through 5-41), they most assuredly found their way to the point of the same train from time to time. Sort of like having your younger sibling wearing your old well-worn/celebrated clothes.....not the same.
But, I've too often beat this horse to death.
Speaking of which.....one's own mortality increasingly calls into question making a financial investment in a dream that may never have a proper ending in one's lifetime. Much as I'd dearly love to add the Super's 1938 consist to my own collection, I may have to pass......reluctantly.
OTOH, to Santiago and the other fortunate owners of Key's magnificent O2R rendition of EMC's gorgeous Warbonnet E-1's I say....CONGRATULATIONS!!!! YOUR PERSISTENCE AND DREAMS ARE SOON TO BE REWARDED!!
I would encourage you to get the set GGD is offering, even a pair of E6 to go with it. What if you don't get it and they offer the E1 shortly after? I felt like you until recently regarding the Burlington E5, I've been looking for a Key set for years, yet there is not one to be found. Recently Scott offered them and while I know it won't compete with Key's, they will bring much joy to my life. Scott and his team are willing to bring these things to us, look around.... No one else is! Hey once you get the cars all you need is the engine!
SANTIAGOP23 is correct about the E6. The WWII picture above by Jack Delano of the Super Chief at Albuquerque (1943), confirms it. And, if anyone makes the E1 in the future, you'll be set. I would imagine the 3rd Rail E6 and a set of these Super Chief cars would be quite spectacular!
Excited for both sets, but the Super Chief is certainly of interest to me as my adopted home road for my operating club. Not completely prototypical, but it would look great tailing my El Capitan set.
Since we're talking about Super Chiefs, was the 1937 Super Chief set by GGD 18" cars? I know one of the original cars IRL (#1370 Acoma) is a 70' car so that would put it around 18" for scale.

21" cars

That is a mighty impressive assortment of Santa Fe POWER!
Jim R. posted:J Daddy posted:For the Olympian Hiawatha? No. The F7 Hudsons were at the end of their days in 1947 when that train was created. Sunset is showing the famous Skytop Lounge car, so the motive power options would be early diesels, most likely an EMD FP7 or F-M Erie-Built consist, but also EMD E7 or E9 consists.
Here’s the link to the announcement. No mention of any motive power that I could find:
The Olympian Hi wasn't known to ever have the F7 Hudson on point, but a Skytop Lounge behind an F7 happened on occasion. There were 2 distinct Skytop observations....the OH tied a Pullman Standard Skytop to its tail whereas the twin cities Hi dragged MR's own built Skytop. To be clear, the PS car is the one being offered by GGD, a Skytop Lounge/8 bedroom Sleeper. The MR built Skytop featured fewer greenhouse windows, with the front section decked out in parlor chairs. The 2 Skytop differences reflected the train types....one transcontinental, the other intercity rocket.
Maybe there's hope for us F7 owners.....the complexity involved in producing a Skytop tail would seem somewhat squandered if only one style of Skytop observation was produced. I know...easier said than done.

J Daddy posted:Thanks for clarifying ... whew ... that could have been really costly bringing that set by the wife!
Don't dare let the wife see this ... she will order it extra cars and all. And THEN bug me for a set of diesels to pull it.
I emailed GGD but have not received a reply yet. I like long trains and need a more prototypical consist. I would like at least 15 cars - so I cannot place an order unless I can get that many unique number cars.
Would one see 15 cars on the Olympian Hiawatha? It never was one of the great revenue trains as it competed with the North Coast Limited
