Looking for a supplier of scrap metal loads for the Atlas 50' gondola.
Any suggestions?
This is what I have now.

Using scrap wood make a box with an open top. It should be approx 1"x1". Tear up some aluminum foil into little shreds and then stuff them into the box. After compressing as much as you can into the box, remove the 'clump' and repeat until you have enough loads to fill the gon. A light wash of rust paint brings out the detail. Russ
Yes. This fellow sells on eBay and makes loads for a variety of different cars. I have one tie plate scrap load and will be buying more.

I used actual scrap metal in mine
I have a bunch of the St. Charles Model Works loads (link two posts above this one) in shredded scrap, baled scrap and "pup" (the ends of coil steel rolls). They are really nicely done.

That is a super idea - thanks

Sent you an e-mail.
If you have any old, broken, VCRs or printers they contain a load of small metal and plastic parts, gears, mounts, and shapes that will look fine in a gondola.
Any ideas for loads that a Lionel electromagnetic crane can lift
I crush pop bottle caps into squares (or near squares) to act like auto bundles. Hard to make square, but they pick up with the magnet quite well. I also wrap steel wire into a coil using 2 pairs of needle nose plyers. these represent scrap rod coil ends. Be sure the steel pieces are large enough to keep from getting "picked up" by the engine and its internal magnets.

RJR, make the aluminum blocks as described above but before the last few scrap pieces get stuffed into the box insert an oversized thumbtack (with the point broken off) into the bale then finish compressing. The Lionel magnent will snatch that up perfectly! Russ
Thanls, Russ. Sounds like a good idea. I'll try it.
What keeps the scraps together?
"What keeps the scraps together?" Take some foil, scrunch it up and then try and UN-scrunch it! Russ
