I have the Lionel Strasburg Steam Passenger RTR set 6-30133. I'd like to add a few more passenger cars. What would you recommend that would be similar to the ones included in the set? I'd like something similar in prototype year, style, and size. Would also like to stay with PRR and color scheme. I saw some MTH Madison cars at the LHS and they looked very nice- MTH 33-6244, 33-6245, 33-6246. There may be others. I'm not really in tune with passenger cars and there seems to be an overwhelming variety. Any recommendations? Thanks

Oh, those are awesome. Pricey, but awesome. Thanks for posting. I never would have known otherwise.
Garrett76,
Alert! The pictures in the MTH links do not represent three different products. One is supposed to be a three coach set, and another is supposed to be a three car add-on (observation, combine and baggage). The third, which is a one coach add-on correctly reflects the product, but the first two both contain pictures of the three car "add-on" set. Just a little blooper on the MTH website.

Garrett76, Lionel made a Strasburg Passenger Two-Pack that would match the cars in your Strasburg set perfectly. The Lionel item number is 6-35211.
I believe the MTH cars are more scale in dimensions other than length too, so they might not match the Lionel cars in that regard as they'd probably be larger in width and height.
For scale woodsided passenger cars, it's MTH or... how about trying your hand at building a Labelle kit:
It's not much cheaper than taking an MTH one out of the box, but it's way more fun, you'll learn a lot, it's a more common size (58' as opposed to MTH's 64'), and you can detail and paint it just how you like.

49Lionel, he is starting out with the Strasburg version of Lionel's "baby Madison" cars.... the same molds used for the Polar Express starter set...... so he's not in need of scale stuff.

This is the best advice. I have the Strasburg set & also got the add-on cars. Looks great!
Thanks to everyone. All posts are being considered. I am in research mode on a leisurely approach to purchase mode.
Anyone know where to get the add-on set at reasonable prices? I have seen them surface on the bay, but always at ridiculous prices

The Premier MTH cars show up on the auction sites for considerably less. Very nice cars.

Sorry, I misunderstood this from your original post. "Would also like to stay with PRR and color scheme." Didn't realize it was a typo.

I would try calling the big dealers like Charles Ro, Nicholas Smith, Grzyboskis, and even the Strasburg train shop (next to the Choo Choo Barn) and ask. They may have it and it may not be listed on their web inventories.
If you don't already have the search saved on eBay, save it so that you are notified when they show up. You never know when someone asking a sane price will list one for sale.
And finally, put an ad in the "Wanted to Buy" section of the forum. You may find someone willing to part with a set.
A trip to the York TCA meet may also yield results.

You appear to be unfamiliar with both the Lionel set and MTH cars. The starter set 0-8-0 in the set is actually scale size within a few tenths of an inch of Lionel's Scale 0-8-0.
The MTH cars are scale 64 foot 1890 cars. They measure a tick over 15" in length. The baby madison cars in the set are 15" (~60 foot).
Some might call a 16' aluminum boat a yacht but I wouldn't.
